Clear Vision, Renewed Hope: How Delta Gamma Foundation's Support Transforms Lives Through New Eyes
May 5, 2024- Since 2006, the Delta Gamma Foundation has been a cornerstone supporter of New Eyes fthrough its Service for Sight grants. These generous grants have allowed New Eyes to fulfill our mission of providing new prescription eyeglasses to individuals living in poverty across the United States. Together, this partnership has brought the gift of clear vision to thousands who otherwise could not afford it.
The Need for Eyeglasses Among the Most Vulnerable
Access to prescription eyeglasses is an often-overlooked need in the fight against poverty. Yet, for millions of Americans, poor vision poses a significant barrier to education, employment, and overall quality of life. Children struggle to see the board in classrooms, adults are unable to work effectively, and seniors face heightened risks of accidents—all because they lack the financial resources to purchase the eyeglasses they desperately need.
According to the Vision Council of America, more than 12 million people in the U.S. have uncorrected vision problems due to an inability to afford glasses. For these individuals, clear vision can mean the difference between dependency and self-sufficiency, between despair and hope.
This is where New Eyes steps in. Since our inception in 1932, we’ve made it our mission to provide new prescription eyeglasses to the most vulnerable members of society, ensuring that no one’s potential is limited by poor vision.
18 Years of Partnership: Delta Gamma Foundation’s Impact
The Delta Gamma Foundation’s Service for Sight program shares this commitment to empowering those with visual impairments. For nearly two decades, the Foundation has awarded Service for Sight grants to New Eyes, directly funding the purchase of new prescription eyeglasses for low-income individuals. These grants have sustained New Eyes’ ability to serve communities in all 50 states, changing lives one pair of glasses at a time.
“With Delta Gamma Foundation’s support, we’ve been able to extend our reach and impact across the country,” said Jean Gajano, Executive Director of New Eyes. “Their commitment to promoting clear vision has allowed us to transform lives, helping people achieve their educational and professional goals and restoring their confidence. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering partnership and generosity.”
Stories of Transformation
The impact of Delta Gamma Foundation’s support is best told through the stories of the people New Eyes serves.
A child in Florida was struggling to keep up in school because she couldn’t see the board clearly. Her family couldn’t afford eyeglasses, but with support from New Eyes, she received a pair of glasses that allowed her to thrive academically.
An elderly man in Ohio who had been forced to stop driving due to poor vision is now able to regain his independence thanks to the eyeglasses provided through New Eyes.
A single mother in Texas, who struggled to maintain a job due to her inability to read fine print, now has the tools she needs to provide for her family.
Gratitude and a Shared Vision
New Eyes and the Delta Gamma Foundation share a common belief in the importance of clear vision, no matter one’s income. Together, we have made a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of individuals who now have the ability to see clearly and achieve their potential.
As we reflect on this impactful partnership, New Eyes is reminded of the importance of collaboration in addressing systemic challenges. Together with the Delta Gamma Foundation, New Eyes will continue to work toward a future where clear vision is accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances.
